چکیده

This paper proposes an adaptive frame layer rate control scheme for H.264 by introducing a linear model to predict the mean absolute difference (MAD) of current frame by that of previous one. The target bit rate for each frame is computed by adopting a fluid flow traffic model and linear tracking theory. The corresponding quantization parameter is computed by using a quadratic rate– distortion model. The rate distortion optimization (RDO) is then perfomed for all macroblocks (MBs) in the current frame by the quantization parameter. Both constant bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) cases are studied. The average PSNR is improved up to 0.75 dB compared to an encoder with fixed quantization parameter.

Adaptive Macroblock Layer Rate Control for H.264/AVC Via Histogram-based R-D Estimation

In this paper, we propose a bit-rate control algorithm for H.264/AVC using the rate and distortion model estimated by the histogram of DCT coefficients. Since the proposed algorithm induces the rate and distortion model from the current macroblock instead of the previous coded frame or macroblock, it can effectively prevent the fluctuation of the output bits especially when scene change occurs,...

A Simple Adaptive Rate Control for H.264/AVC

The purpose of this paper is to improve allocation of the number of bits without skipping the frame by accurately estimating the target bits in H.264/AVC rate control. In our scheme, we propose an enhancement method of the target frame rate based H.264/AVC bit allocation. The enhancement uses a frame complexity estimation to improve the existing mean absolute difference (MAD) complexity measure...

Towards a Stringent Bit-Rate Conformance for Frame-Layer Rate Control in H.264/AVC

This paper presents a novel frame-layer rate control technique that adaptively determines the frame complexity for bit allocation in order to satisfy the target bit-rate constraints without degrading the decoded video significantly. To do this, we first obtain the edge energy of each frame to measure the frame complexity as well as to determine the weighting of a frame for bit allocation. We th...

An Improved Rate Control Scheme for H, 264 Based on Frame Complexity Estimation

The JVT-G012 rate control algorithm for H.264 video encoding can get high encoding efficiency. But the algorithm has disadvantage that the target bit allocation in the frame layer is uniform according to the buffer residual bits. This paper presents a new method which uses a content complexity quotiety of frame for allocating target bits in the frame layer more accurately. The content complexit...

Adaptive Spectral Separation Two Layer Coding with Error Concealment for Cell Loss Resilience

This paper addresses the issue of cell loss and its consequent effect on video quality in a packet video system, and examines possible compensative measures. In the system's enconder, adaptive spectral separation is used to develop a two-layer coding scheme comprising a high priority layer to carry essential video data and a low priority layer with data to enhance the video image. A two-step er...
